News: Making the most of a College Open Evening: Checklist
If you’re attending a college Open Evening there can be a lot to take in and remember. Our checklist has lots of top tips for making the most of an open event and getting your questions answered!
Are you going to the right campus?
Nottingham College Open Evenings run across multiple sites (Adams, Basford, City Hub, Highfields, High Pavement). You will need to go to the campus where the course(s) you are interested in are taught.
Our Open Day pages have all the information you need, including which courses are taught at each campus and how to book your space.
Check your booking for your time slot!
Our Open Evenings do get very busy so it’s important to book your place in advance. Booking online is easy — just visit our Open Day pages and select your chosen event. When you book your place you’ll be asked to pick a time slot. Please try and arrive 10 minutes before so you have time to sign in and make your way to the welcome presentation or specific course area.
Attend a welcome presentation
Your chosen time slot doubles up as the starting time for a welcome presentation however, if you’re at City Hub head over to the course area you are interested in to find out more information. We recommend you go to the presentation/course area as it’s a is a great opportunity to get an overview of what college life is all about, and see at a glance everything that is on offer.
Bring a pen and paper to make notes – you can refer to them later if you need to.
Plan in advance!
Make sure to grab an event timetable when you arrive, these will be available at the registration desk. Have a read through and make a note of presentation times and any specific areas you would like to visit – that way you can stop by them first.
There will also be course guides available to take away on the night — however you can view or download these online by visiting the course guide section of our website.
Get your questions answered
Open Evenings are the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered. College staff, course tutors and student ambassadors will be on hand to your answer questions in person, and if you do choose to study with us it means you may recognise a familiar face in September.
Bring someone with you
Feel free to bring along a friend or family member – they may even come up with questions you hadn’t thought of yourself.
Have a look around!
There is more to our college campuses than classrooms so make sure to have a look around! Depending on the campus, you will be able to visit our industry standard workshops, studios, science labs, construction workshops, salons, commercial restaurant, replica airline cabin, learning centres and much more.
Decided you want to apply? Head to the application zone on the day or apply online at home
Each of our campuses will have a dedicated application zone where you can apply for a course online if you wish. September 2025 may still seem a long way away but it is useful to be prepared – and there is no obligation to take up the place at this point in time.
Nottingham College Open Evenings will take place throughout the year, you can find out more about them and book your space by visiting the Open Day pages on our website.
If you decide after the Open Evening that you would like to apply, then you can also fill in our application form online. Applications for 2025 is now open.
