News: Nottingham College provides Lamiah industry skills for a bright future
20-year-old Lamiah Swanson reflects on her challenging youth and shares how her studies at Nottingham College are helping her build the skills she needs to achieve her dream future.
Currently pursuing a Level 3 qualification in Hospitality and Management at the City Hub campus, Lamiah, from Nottingham, remains committed to working hard for a brighter future.
She said: “When I was younger, my difficult upbringing led me to skip school often and begin working at the age of 13. But because I was confident at a young age, I went up the ladder in my job roles fast and I realised that actually I really enjoyed managing and leading people. I already had some experience, but I wanted to learn more professional skills, that’s why I chose Hospitality and Management at Nottingham College.
Studying this course made me realise that I really was good at managing people and that I was studying the perfect subject for me. My time here has allowed me to learn management skills in real life settings to industry standard, on top of gaining the qualifications I need, which is so valuable instead of always learning from a classroom. This course opens up a lot of options for my future.

Lamiah has big goals in mind, planning for a future living abroad, learning a second language and managing a high-end hotel. She said: “I want a career that’s relevant to my strengths and where I could travel and work in a different country as I want a fresh start away from the UK.
“My plan after the course is to get a work permit and go abroad and go straight into the deep end of management. My dream would be to to work within high end hotel management, where I will oversee the hotel as well as its bar, restaurant and leisure areas.
“I would 100% recommend Nottingham College. I love it because students get to choose to study here, so everyone works hard and keeps their heads down, there’s no drama. There’s also a huge variety of courses here and it’s amazing that my course has a whole bar and restaurant to learn and work in.”
The event will provide a great piece of real-life experience. But better than that, it is an event celebrating other students to we will get to serve a real sentimental service for everyone, I’m really looking forward to it.
