Course outline
This new part-time degree aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to operate as successful managers and entrepreneurs in the ever-changing and competitive business world.
We need to equip you with much more than business knowledge, because potential employers are seeking a comprehensive range of skillsets. You’ll leave us with real experiences that should help give the edge at interview and in the workplace.
This is a part-time BA (Honours) Level 6 programme normally studied over 5 academic years.
If you already hold a related Level 5 qualification (such as an HND or Foundation Degree), you can join the programme directly at Stage 3 (Level 6) and top-up to a BA (Hons) degree over 2 academic years.
This award is validated by The Open University.
About the course
Business is brought to life with a focus on real-world business and management scenarios around key themes:
- sustainable approaches to business and management
- planning for effective marketing and promotion
- managing business function areas
- current trends and changes in management
- enabling success by using strategic choices
- business innovation
Part-time students will normally take 80 credits’ worth of modules in each academic year during Stages 1 and 2. Stage 3 is normally studied over 2 academic years, with students normally taking 60 credits each year.
When you start the programme, we will agree a plan of which modules are taken in each year.
Stage 1 (Level 4) modules:

- essentials of marketing
- introduction to sustainability
- insight into economics
- principles of finance
Stage 2 (Level 5) modules:
- sustainable management and leadership
- business decision making
- human resources management
- entrepreneurship
- promotional campaigns

- business ethics and sustainability

We would expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy. We accept GCSE passes at grades 9 to 4 (previously A* to C). You may be invited to attend an interview. Mature applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but with relevant industry or life experience are very welcome to apply. Applicants who have already achieved (or expect to pass) a full Level 5 (such as an HND or Foundation Degree) in a relevant subject area can apply for direct entry to Year 3 (Level 6) of the programme. Please use entry point 3 when making your UCAS choice. |
Teaching & assessment | A mixture of traditional and innovative assessment methods will be used, including individual and group presentations, discussions, report writing, case studies, presentations, research and project work, examinations, reflective journals and work-based projects. |
Progression | Graduates will be well-placed for careers in a wide range of settings in the public, private and voluntary sectors . This multi-disciplinary degree provides the skillsets needed to succeed in business after you graduate and does not limit you to a specific job. Most of our graduates enter the business world and find employment in a wide range of organisations, in the public, private and voluntary sectors. After graduating you could become a:
business advisor, business development manager, investment banker, data
analyst, consultant, project manager, accounts manager, risk manager,
stockbroker, estate agent, HR manager, supply chain manager, teacher. Several students
have chosen to continue their specialist studies at postgraduate level. |
