Course Introduction

Community courses are “first steps” for adults to learn new skills, develop confidence, meet others in welcoming classroom. The purpose of courses is to support students into further learning or employment (paid or voluntary).

This course is primarily for people who want to create a small business website or online space to turn their hobby into a small business and sell products and services.

Course knowledge and skills:

  • Set targets to achieve your goals for the website.
  • Identify the technology skills needed to start and maintain a website.
  • Build a website using free online tools.
  • Customise a template with pages and content.
  • Tailor your website to your target market.
  • Learn how to maximize your reach using SEO tools.
  • Review data from website analytics.

On this course, you will learn to explore how to build a simple and professional website in easy steps; and

will teach you where to start and how to grow your website. The focus will be on using website builder templates. With little or no experience, you will learn how to design a unique website.

You should attend regularly and arrive on time to make best progress on course.

You will complete a short diary weekly in class time, to record your progress and receive written tutor feedback.

You will use Microsoft Teams whilst on the course. Microsoft Teams is a free, safe online app used by Nottingham College for tutors to contact students.

Using Teams will also enable you to develop and feel confident using digital skills.

For more information on using Microsoft Teams and the induction process, please visit our Induction Information for Community Students page.

Duration: You will learn at your own pace, but the course typically takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
