Further Education for School Leavers
You probably know that all young people are now required by law to stay in education until they are at least 18.
However, what you may not be aware of is the range of options available to your son or daughter - after 16 young people have the choice to stay in school, go into an Apprenticeship or attend college.
Thousands of young people choose to study at Nottingham College every year and if your child is considering applying for a course here, we can show you - in more detail - which routes are available with us. We know that for many, coming to college is a completely new experience. This is why we have systems in place to make sure that your child feels that they’re being looked after and are getting the help and opportunities that are right for them.
Choosing what's right for your child
At Nottingham College, we want your child to choose a course or Apprenticeship that’s right for them and their needs.
This is why we’ll provide your son or daughter with their very own personalised study programme designed especially for them- directly linking to what they’ve achieved so far, their abilities and ambitions for the future.
We want to show you that college allows your child to experience much more than getting a qualification. We’ll also prepare them to strive in their chosen career or towards university-level study. Plus, we’ll make it fun along the way!
Courses designed for your child's career
Employability and study skills will be included as part of your child’s course to help develop their broad skills needed by the industry they want to work in. This part of the study programme will vary from course to course and is designed to meet local and national employer needs. It could include team building, problem solving and evaluation skills, as well as work experience, volunteering, project work and visiting industry speakers.
With your child’s study programme, you can rest assured that they will get the most out of your time with us and will feel ready to take their next step into further training, education or employment.
We’ve put together some information in these pages to help guide you through the process of choosing us as a place of further education.
